Lactation cookies are a yummy way to increase your milk supply almost instantly. This recipe is a quick and easy one that takes five minutes to whip up, minimal ingredients and zero bake time.
For myself, I created this recipe and it has remained my go-to. Mostly, I love it so much because even though my son will be a year old next month I still sometimes feel a drop in supply and and need a quick fix. These take literally minutes to whip up. The fact that i’m running after an almost one year old doesn’t stop me. They are just SO easy.
When you’re done putting them together just pop them in an airtight container and straight into the fridge and nibble on them for up to two weeks +.
The ‘whys’ of these ingredients:
Rolled Oats- Oats are truly the “god” of natural milk production in my opinion. Sometimes, it’s literally as easy as eating a bowl of oatmeal if you feel a sudden drop in production. It’s a great source of iron. I prefer using gluten-free oats and i process them in my food processor first before adding any other ingredients. You can buy the ones I use HERE.
Ground Flax Seed – An amazing source of fatty acids. Particularly, ALA (Alpha-linolenic acid), which will convert into omega-3 fatty acids. Fatty acids are essential for breast milk production. I prefer using ground flax seed as it gives a smoother texture but you can definitely use whole flax seed if that’s all you have. You can get the ground flax seed I use HERE.
Chia Seed – Another great source of fatty acids along with fibre, protein and calcium. All of these vitamins will aid in proper brain, bone, teeth, and nerve function development of your baby. Chia seeds will enhance your breast milk production rate naturally. I prefer to use HERE.
Dates – The glue that holds it all together… Dates can increase a hormone called prolactin which tell your body to produce breast milk. You can quick purchase the dates I use for the best texture HERE.
Coconut Oil and Shredded Coconut – Consuming coconut can increase the capric acid and lauric acid levels in your breast milk. This is great for boosting your little one’s immunity. You can purchase the coconut oil I use HERE and the shredded coconut HERE.
Remember: Just a tip…on-top of these milk boosters always make sure you’re continuing with your pre-natals or supplements, staying hydrated and keeping that stress level on the LOW. These are all things that can drastically reduce your milk supply if not taken care of and nourished properly.
- food processor or high speed blender
- 2 cups Oats Create rolled oats by processing oats in blender before adding any other ingredients
- 3/4 cups Shredded Coconut
- 1/2 cup Ground Flax Seed
- 1/4 cup Chia Seeds
- 1/4 cup Maple Syrup
- 1 cup Packed Dates Soaked overnight or in hot water for 10 mins
- 1/2 cup Natural Peanut Butter
- Add all dry ingredients into food processor and pulse until well combined
- Add the soaked dates and maple syrup and pulse until a dough like texture begins to form.
- If you find that the mixture is not sticking together enough, simply add water by the tablespoon until you get your desired texture.
- Roll mixture into bite size balls approx. 1" by 1". Or, the size you wish!
